long weekend bites
good bites!
here are a few tidbits of some snacking that happened this long weekend. above is a few sardines that were cooked over my charcoal grill… delicious! living in a Portuguese neighbourhood definitely sparked this interest – during the summer every single block smells like grilling sardines! served with a grilled whole squid which was stuffed with croutons, tomatoes, caramelized onions, and parsley, then sewn up with a toothpick. the squid was really tasty, but the croutons went to mush and was rather unappealing, so maybe next time, just grilled calamari with a panzanella salad. live and learn!
this past monday was beach day!! of course, it was going to be crazy but i was determined since it was going to be 26 in toronto (not including street smog heat), so a trip to the island was essential! it just meant waking up at 8am, and getting out there in bathing suits, sun block, and a good picnic! fruit, sandwiches and leftover sardines…
keeping it covered and cool, steak sandwiches with arugula and a spicy, tangy horseradish mayo are always a hit. another sandwich that is easy to assemble is prosciutto, brie, figs, and arugula on a baguette when you want to feel fancy!
oh jeeeeze. i miss the weekend.

That is one glam sandwich. I love figs and cheese together. The prosciutto makes it even more irresistible.
looks and sounds like a really tasty picnic
