the lost world

life’s been changing a lot lately, and with sadness comes great happiness as well. but that happiness might have something to do with that more than $600 i spent this past month on booze…

the darkened skies at 8pm are a reminder than the fall is closing in on us, and the summer will soon disappear. i’ve fully embraced this past summer, spending as much time as possible lying in the sun, and cruising around on my bike in the warm, night breeze. every day is a joy, and no matter how awful my brain feels the next morning (whats left of it) and the struggle of staying awake, like sleep is david and my ability to act like a good employee is goliath, i love summer. i loved this summer. and i think i will pray for, and love every summer after.

the heat is wonderful, but its also changed my diet quite a bit… this warm sunny days means many days of early drinking, missing dinners cause its too hot, and mainly because i just can’t drink and eat (stomach room, people!) and somehow just not giving a shit, has made me so relaxed. this summer has also meant re-connecting with friends, which is probably the best thing about it. also, summer activities like roof top films, pool dates, hot tubbing, feeling the sand between your toes, being able to wear next to nothing and having it be somewhat appropriate…

tonight i’m going to the drake, somewhere i’d usually avoid like toronto during the g20, but they are offering something i can’t refuse! every tuesday they show a movie, and you get a sloppy joe, a beer, and popcorn for $5! its tooo good to miss. and as much as i hate that place, i’ve realized i more hate the people that go, not the drake. they’ve made a valiant effort to serve decent food, in a fun and decent atmosphere, and put on events that bring the community together. but there’s no excuse for their ice cream/t-shirt shop, thats just ridiculous.

moving on. i’ve never actually cooked much, or anything with miso! the picture above is halibut marinated in a mixture of miso, mirin, and sugar, just made into a more than spreadable paste. i should’ve marinated it for longer, but brought it a little more to room temp, then broiled it in the oven for about 2 minutes per side. with this, i made a slaw of red cabbage, cucumbers, and carrots with a little mirin tang and olive oil. underneath is some soba and a broth made of cucumber water mixed with some chicken stock. preferably, i would’ve loved to have added some bonito flakes instead of chicken broth, but that is another time!!!
