summer rain, i cannot compete with you
we’ve had some damn humid days in toronto, so when i eat, i go for food that is super refreshing. last night was my dad’s birthday and we decided on seafood. got a tall seafood platter full of raw and cold items, along with some cooked seafoods apps. honestly, nothing is better than kicking your head back and downing some delicious oysters dressed with just a tiny squeeze of lemon.
i’ve been cooking quite a bit more than usual – i chalk this up to walking away from summer afternoon beer sessions, and some of my favourite people, the ones you can spend hours upon hours shooting the shit with and having to tear yourself away to go home and pass out half dressed, not being in the city.
i love tacos. my heart belongs with latin food, tucked under a pile of white corn tortillas. i’m usually a meat eater when it comes to tacos. carnitas, chorizo, bistec… it’s all about the fat that drizzles down your pinky finger and along your arm that can make a taco super tasty. but in the summer, shrimp tacos can be killer. a fresh flavour explosion.
i marinated my shrimp with some chili, paprika, lime and cumin. cooked em quick in a super hot pan for about 10 seconds on each side, if even that. put on some super fresh tortillas from la tortilleria with avocado creme fraiche (avos, creme fraiche, lime juice), corn salsa (charred a bit in a hot pan and mixed with seeded tomato, shallot, cilantro, lime), pickled jalapenos, and a little more cilantro.
enjoy whatever summer days we have left!

Those shrimp tacos look so good!
